Enrich your collection or dinner table with this heavy and exceptionally beautifully decorated antique silver ginger serving set.
This two-piece serving set, consisting of a ginger fork and a ginger spoon/scoop, is crafted in an exuberant Biedermeier style with rich floral motifs and detailed engraving. With a total weight of over 71 grams, this is a very solid and luxuriously made piece of Utrecht silverware from the mid-19th century.
This set was made by the renowned Utrecht silversmith Zacharias Hendrikus van Kijk (active between 1862 and 1901). Van Kijk was known for his high-quality masterworks, both large and small. The set is fully and clearly hallmarked with his official maker's mark (ZH above v K in a square).
  • Maker's Mark: Z.H. van Kijk, Utrecht (active 1862-1901)
  • Purity: Second grade silver (.833) – hallmarked with the 'running Lion 2'
  • Minerva Head: Marked with the letter B (Utrecht assay office)
  • Year Letter: d for the year 1863
  • Dimensions: Lengths of 192 mm and 187 mm (robust size)
  • Weight: 71.4 grams (very heavy quality for a ginger set)
Condition:
The ginger serving set is in excellent antique condition. The leaf edges, floral engravings, and tines have remained razor-sharp, and the silver has a beautiful, warm patina.
