An exceptionally beautiful and historically interesting Frisian silver ornamental spoon, made in 1841 by the renowned silversmith Lammert Tjeerds Spannenberg.
This beautifully decorated masterpiece showcases pure Frisian craftsmanship and features an authentic, period-appropriate stippled engraving.
The twisted handle of the spoon is crowned at the end with a detailed cast and openwork symbolic figure of a water carrier or farmer with a yoke and milk pails. The transition from the handle to the generous, egg-shaped bowl is adorned on both sides with an elegant, robustly cast ornamental head, typical of these high-quality Frisian commemorative spoons.

Directly below the casting of the water carrier, a beautiful, handmade stippled engraving with the initials and dating is located on a silver cartouche:
"A P K 1842"
This engraving was applied only one year after the official hallmarking of the spoon (1841), indicating a direct purpose as a personal birth, wedding, or commemorative gift within a Frisian family.
The spoon is remarkably complete and sharply hallmarked, distributed across the handle and the front of the bowl:
  • Maker's Mark: The rare and sought-after mark 74 above L S in a square, the official mark of L.T. Spannenberg (active in Joure, Balk, and Sint Annaparochie between 1828 and 1846). This mark is beautifully and deeply struck on the handle.
  • Purity Mark: Walking Lion with a 2 (for 2nd grade silver, .833).
  • Assay Office Mark: Minerva head with the assay office letter F (Leeuwarden).
  • Date Letter: The clear G, representing the production year 1841.
Specifications:
