Frisian silver birth spoon, made by the silversmith Johannes de Vries from Sneek in the year 1761. This silversmith worked from approximately 1738 to 1769.

The gilt spoon features the maker's mark cloverleaf (Voet 539).

The bowl is engraved with the initials: DP.

The spoon is crowned with Arlecchino, known in English as Harlequin. He is one of the most iconic characters from the Italian commedia dell'arte, a form of improvisational theater that originated in the 16th century.

The birth spoon is engraved with the text: Dettje Pyters was born on August 6, 1761.

Dettje Pyters was baptized on August 9 in Balk and was a daughter of Pieter Harmens and Ypkjen Baukes, married on December 4, 1745, in Balk.

Dettje Pyters died on May 17, 1823. She was likely married (marriage confirmed on July 22, 1792) to Sibbele Pieters Wildeboer. (Source: Marriage register of the Dutch Reformed Church Balk 1658 -1811)
