18th century corpus with skull and INRI shield on a later wooden cross.
The corpus is made of first grade silver and marked with an unclear 18th century maker's mark. (see picture)
The 18th century crucifixes can be recognized by the skull under Christ's cross. According to legend, the skull of Adam was buried at the place where Christ was later crucified.
The skull is used as a symbol of death, when one does not want to represent it by a skeleton. It is usually accompanied by two cross-placed coffins.
As a saint's attribute, it depicts the transience of man.
Above the cross hangs a sign with the letters INRI, the Latin abbreviation of Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews.
Traces of a restoration can be seen on the back, and there is also a small crack in the statue. (see picture)
