A very rare and museum-quality 18th-century silver cabaret , made in 1743 by the Amsterdam silversmith Hendrik Swierinck (1693–1771) , a renowned specialist in large silverwork. This impressive square tray belongs to the high-quality Dutch rococo silversmithing of the mid-18th century.

The large square top with beveled corners has a richly patterned rim , beautifully decorated with rocaille ornaments , characteristic of the rococo style. The cabaret rests on four panel-shaped feet , giving it a stately and monumental appearance. The quality of the casting and embossing underscores Swierinck's exceptional craftsmanship.

The cabaret has been fully inspected at the bottom with:

  • Amsterdam City Bylaw
  • Master's mark HS (Hendrik Swierinck)
  • Quality mark
  • Date letter I for 1743
  • Crowned O
  • Also equipped with a trembler stitch

Weighing 714 grams and measuring generously at 30.5 × 30.5 cm , this is a substantial and representative object.

About the silversmith

Hendrik Swierinck was born in Zwolle in 1693, the son of Berent Swierinck. In 1726, he became a citizen of Amsterdam and established himself there as a silversmith. In 1733, he married Catharina van Huet and settled on the Rozengracht canal . His son, Barend Swierinck, also entered the trade.

Swierinck was known as a specialist in large-scale work , particularly silver leaf. His work can be found today in museums, major auctions, and the international art market . The last known works bearing his master's mark date from 1771 , suggesting he must have died shortly thereafter.
