19thCentury silver knitting needle holder or knitting sheath made by the silversmith H. Ament from Joure. He was active from 1837 to 1873.
In a knitting needle holder the right working needle was inserted during knitting, so that the needle no longer had to be held. The knitting sheath was mainly used as a support when knitting stockings.
The knitting needle holder is hallmarked with master stamp HA89 and the sword for 2nd grade silver.
