18th Century silver knitting needle holder made by the silversmith Anthony de Hoop from Amsterdam. Active from 1767 to 1785.
He was known as a small worker, specializing in lead boxes and needle cases.
In a knitting needle holder the right working needle was inserted during knitting, so that the needle no longer had to be held. The knitting sheath was mainly used as a support when knitting stockings.
The knitting needle holder is constructed from a twisted shaft and is hallmarked with the city hallmark of Amsterdam and the master hallmark of Anthony de Hoop. (Woman with anchor representing de Hoop)
In beautiful condition.
Weight: 29.5 grams. Length: 16 cm.
