A 17th century, eight-lobed, typical Groningen model brandy bowl made by the master blacksmith Wessel Sevensteern or Sevenstern, active from 1691 to 1705.
The bowl is placed on an also eight-lobed foot. On the bowl is an alliance coat of arms engraved with a worn stipple engraving. JJ? ZMK. Also a worn date.
The brandy bowl has S-shaped handles topped by a dragon's head.
The bowl is marked with the master's mark, seven six-pointed stars, in a circle and the date letter 4 - S for 1695/1696.
Not much work is known from this silversmith. The Martens Mulder foundation also has a work by him, but otherwise this silversmith is difficult to find.
The brandy bowl is of museum quality despite the fact that the bowl has earlier restoration traces on the bottom and on one ear. See also the photos.
