Frisian silver brandy bowl with embossed decoration of birds and curls and floral motifs.

The bowl was made by the silversmith Jelle Thomas from Makkum in the year 1754 (date letter B). Jelle Thomas married Tsjitske Tjebbes on 18 June 1757 in Wonseradeel, she lived in Joure. He died around 1782. This silversmith is not mentioned in the existing literature on Frisian silversmiths. With regard to the conclusive determination we would like to thank the forum 925-1000.com and Jan Schipper.

The large brandy bowl is provided with the master mark IT, year letter B, city mark of Sneek (used from 1749) and the Frisian 1st grade mark (2 lions under a crown).

There are various annotations on the bowl: Freek Martens 1754 Siebrig Martens, FH Heerstra 1876 OJ van Abbema 1854. Furthermore on the inside FH Reitsma 1876 and RF Heerstra. The bowl has therefore served various families for a long time.

The bowl has cast handles with a beautiful decoration of 3 putti around flowers.

In excellent used condition.

Weight: 270.5 grams. Dimensions: 26 x 11.5 x 8.5 cm.
