Silver brandy bowl, AP Altena, Franeker, 1714

Frisian silver 8-lobed brandy bowl with handles decorated with putti. Made by the silversmith Arjen Pieter Altena (Voet 528) from Franeker. Active from 1697 to 1725. This silversmith was also receiver of estate goods and citizen lieutenant. Not many silver items from his hand have been preserved.

This brandy bowl is of museum quality and in excellent condition.

Hallmarked with master hallmark AA, date letter V for 1714 and provincial hallmark. Provided with various test strokes with which the silver was tested for purity in the guild period.

The bowl is engraved with AP 17?5. Also with the moon TK Miedema, 1822.
