Silver Bible lock, K. van de Graaf / Rotterdam, 19th century

Sturdy silver Bible lock with the images of the evangelist Mark (with a lion) and Luke (with an ox) on the mutineer and the attachment. On the clamp arm Moses is depicted with the 10 commandments.

Both the mutineer and the attachment are hallmarked with the J that was used as a tax hallmark for works from 1852 to 1859. Further hallmarked with KG for K. van de Graaf of the Rotterdam hallmark district. The clamp arm is hallmarked with the second content hallmark.
