West Frisian silver ear iron with rectangular studs, made by the silversmith J. and H. Bossert Gz from Alkmaar. This maker's mark was used between 1853 and 1874.

The ear iron comes with a box of hats and accessories. This includes three baggy hats, three lace hats with black brims, and more. See the photos for more.

The ear iron and the studs are marked with the master's mark 36. J&HB, Minerva head, date letter d of 1863 and the second grade mark.

Early ear irons are rare. In the past, "old" ear irons were often melted down to make more fashionable versions. Furthermore, not many caps from that period have survived. Because they were utilitarian, they were often worn out and discarded.

The ear iron has a small tear behind the stitching and some dents. See the photos for these.

Weight: 55.4 grams. Dimensions: approx. 17 x 19 cm.
