Antique silver travel knife, a so-called Schager knife.
From the 16th to the 19th century they were active in forging knives in Schagen. This knife has a steel blade marked with the Schager mark, the boat hook with the crescent moon underneath.
The silver handle is beautifully decorated with images of female figures on both sides. One figure depicts wisdom with a stick and a book. The stick was the symbol of the earthly pilgrimage. The book represents study and wisdom. On the other hand, the female figure depicts trust with an anchor and a bird together symbolizing a casual faith. Anchor represents hope, the bird represents otherworldly freedom. The handle has a dog as a crowning mark as a sign of loyalty.
Marked with the second hallmark (lion), the hallmark of the hallmark of Alkmaar. Master's mark of G. Reek from Hoorn who used this mark between 1812 -1823 and the year letter from 1823. Dimensions of the knife is 16 cm. Weight: 29 grams.
