18th century Schager knife with a silver handle. The handle has a dog as its crown (a sign of loyalty). Knife makers were active in Schagen from the 16th century. They were known for their quality knives. The blade is marked with the boat hook with half moon. The blade has two engraved figures. A man and a woman surrounded by floral motifs. Marked with master's mark which could possibly be attributed to Cornelis Hanse (a half moon in a circle). Registered in Alkmaar, 1765-1780. He also used the maker's mark CH in rectangle.

Cornelis Hanse became a student on January 8, 1748 with his father Jacobus Hanse, becoming master in 1765. He probably succeeded his father who died on December 25, 1765.

The initials of the 1st owner are also engraved in the knife: AW.

The knife has a length of: 19.5 cm and a weight of: 28.6 grams.
