17th century knife with a carnelian handle. The handle is crowned with a rosette.
From the 16th to the 19th century they were active in forging knives in Schagen. This knife has a steel blade marked with the Schager mark, the boat hook with the crescent moon underneath.
The handle has a silver decoration with the owner's initials: AL
Klaus Marquardt has described similar knives in his book 'Eight centuries of European knives, forks and spoons' on page 115.
Dating ca. 1650-1680.
The silver has not been hallmarked, which was common at this time.
The knife has a length of: 17.5 cm and a weight of: 43.5 grams.
