The silver handle is beautifully crafted with images of female figures on either side. One figure represents wisdom with a stick and a book. The stick was the symbol of the earthly pilgrimage. The book stands for study and wisdom. On the other side, the female figure represents trust with an anchor and a bird together symbolizing an unforced faith. The anchor stands for hope, the bird stands for supernatural freedom.
The handle is crowned with a little dog as a sign of loyalty.
Hallmarked with the second hallmark (lion), the hallmark office mark from Alkmaar. Master mark NR and the date letter N from 1847.
The blade was later replaced.
