Heavy silver miniature of a woman at a well, made by silversmith J. Verhoogt from Hoorn. Active from 1896 to 1936.

Jan (Johannes) Verhoogt began as a knife grinder, later specializing entirely in luxury silver miniatures. In the antiques world, he became world-renowned as the specialist in windmills and sailing ships.

Very detailed silver miniature, depicting a brick-built round well with a high metal arch and a functional chain from which a bucket hangs. A costumed figure stands ready to draw water, flanked by a spectator on a square base plate.

The miniature is hallmarked with the second fineness mark, Minerva head, year letter z for 1909, and the maker's mark JV with a hammer.

The miniature is in perfect condition.

Weight: 40.9 grams. Dimensions: 4 x 4 x 6 cm.
