Silver miniature of a rope maker, made by silversmith J. Verhoogt from Hoorn. Active from 1896 to 1936.

Jan (Johannes) Verhoogt started as a knife sharpener, later specializing entirely in luxurious silver miniatures. He became world-renowned in the antique world as the specialist in windmills and sailing ships.

The scene shows a large seated figure behind a workbench guiding the rope. On the left are two smaller figures (a woman and a man with a hat) holding the threads. The twisted silver wire represents the ropes in the ropewalk, stretched between the various spinning wheels and bobbins.

The miniature is hallmarked with the second fineness mark, Minerva head, year letter B for 1911 and the master's mark JV with hammer.

The miniature is in perfect condition.

Weight: 34.8 grams. Dimensions: 4.3 x 4.5 x 3 cm.
