Heavy silver miniature of a butcher's scene, made by the silversmith J. Verhoogt from Hoorn. Active from 1896 to 1936.

Jan (Johannes) Verhoogt started as a knife grinder, later specializing entirely in luxury silver miniatures. He became world-renowned in the antique world as THE specialist in windmills and sailing ships.

Very detailed silver miniature of a "pig on the ladder" (a home butchery). This traditional Dutch scene depicts a butcher's scene with an openworked pig carcass hanging from a ladder, a butcher at a chopping block, and spectators.

The miniature is hallmarked with the first standard mark, export mark, Minerva's head, year letter 's' for 1902, and the master's mark JV with a hammer.

Further hallmarked with English import marks from I. Miller, city mark London, year letter, and 1st standard silver mark. (sterling silver)

The miniature is in perfect condition.
