Large silver miniature of a windmill made by the silversmith J. Verhoogt from Hoorn. Active from 1896 to 1936.

The windmill is hallmarked with the second-grade silver mark, maker's mark JV with hammer, and year letter Q for 1908. The Minerva head is also struck under the cap.

The windmill can function as a besamim holder, as the cap of the windmill can be removed. A besamim is a container for a fragrant mixture of spices. At the end of the Sabbath celebration, the Havdalah is recited. Wine and spices are used to comfort the sad soul. The besamim is passed around to everyone. Everyone then smells these fragrant spices to conclude the Sabbath and start the new week well. Besamim is Hebrew and means spices.

The miniature is in perfect condition.

Weight: 77.3 grams. Dimensions: 4 x 6 x 12 cm.
