Crystal bowl or dish with a lobed silver foot made by silversmith Jean George Grebe Jr from Rotterdam. Active from 1820 to 1862.
Jean George Grebe Junior made silver tableware and scoops during his working period, such as: inkwells, services, tobacco boxes, bowls and serving spoons. Museum Rotterdam made a silver book cover for the Steigerse Kerk in Rotterdam, which is in the collection of Museum Rotterdam.
He participated in the World Exhibition in London in 1851 and in the Exhibition of the Industry of All Nations in New York in 1853-1854. At the latter he won a silver medal for his “masterfully crafted silver cup”. He exhibited this cup the following year (1855) at the Exposition Universelle in Paris.
The silver is marked with master mark JG cross G, second fineness mark, Minerva head and date letter A for 1835.
The glass has a few chips.
