Groot Zeeuws Paeremes, JH Hackenberg / Middelburg, 19th century.

Large Zeeland Paeremes with allegorical representation on the handle and a stylized dog as a sign of loyalty. The larger the knife, the greater the status of a bearer. Well, this carrier had status. The knife has a length of almost 37 cm (!) and weighs: 253.3 grams.

The blade was supplied by Carl Schlieper from Solingen (Germany). The silver handle has been hallmarked with the master hallmark of JH Hackenberg from Middelburg. This silversmith worked from 1843 to 1868.

Only the handle measures 16 cm.
