Frisian knife with silver handle, Leeuwarden, 18th century.
Frisian silver knife from the end of the 18th century. The knife is driven with curl and floral motifs. There are also two male figures depicted on either side of the handle. One is holding a bunch of grapes and the other appears to be busy with a grape near a campfire.
The knife has a rider on horseback as its crowning achievement. The blade is original and is the same age as the handle.
The defect is a crack along the length of the inside of the handle of approx. 4 cm.
The name of the 1st owner is printed on the outside of the handle. LK Surveyor. Also dated: 1813. The knife is hallmarked with a maker's mark that matches Foot C28. This stands for an unknown master from Leeuwarden who worked from 1793.
