Bible with silver clasps and fittings, HW van Giffen, Groningen, 18th century

^19th Century Bible from the publisher J. Brandt en Zoon, Haarlem, Johannes Enschede en Zonen from 1865 with ^18th century silver clasps made by Hendrik Willem van Giffen from Groningen, active from 1794 to 1811. (master's mark LvG in contour).  The shield with number 2 belongs to essayist Frederik Stratingh, who worked in Groningen 1837/1845. The master mark GH with ax in rectangle belongs to Geert Herwig Sr., who worked in Veendam from 1826 to 1843.

The initials GB and 1797 are engraved on the cleats

The Bible contains family records on the first pages. These start in 1833.

The Bible has been rebound and is therefore in excellent condition. See also the photos.
