Bible with silver locks, J. van Bommel / Rotterdam, 18th century

^19th Century Bible with the old and new testament by Johannes Allart from Amsterdam, 1808. The psalms and hymns are also by J. Allart from 1806.

The ^18th century silver locks were made by Johannes van Bommel (IVB), who worked in Rotterdam from 1777 to 1809. They are hallmarked with the year letter R for 1798 and the city hallmark from Rotterdam.

The mutineers and starters depict pleasant freedom (with the horn of plenty), Watchful faith (with the leaping dog and the open Bible), higher spheres (the straight trunk of the palm tree represents the ascent of the human spirit, victory and recreation of the natural man into a new life. The bird is the symbol of the soul). Heavenly future, (pyramids symbol for stairs leading to heaven. crown and palm branch fame and victory over death).
