18th Century Bible from Leeuwarden, translated by W. Coulon, P. Koumans and Abraham Ferwerda with double silver clasps, attributed to the silversmith Jan Peereboom from Leeuwarden, active from 1751 to 1805.
The silver clasps are engraved on the inside with the initials BTB and the year 1849.
The mutineers, attachments and clamps are beautifully openworked in the Rococo style that flourished during the period of Louis XV.
The silver is hallmarked with master hallmark boom which can probably be attributed to Jan Peereboom.
The Bible contains family chronicles of the Ritskes van der Kooij family from Teerns.
The Bible also contains a number of copper engravings with biblical scenes.
The Bible dates from 1747 and has signs of use consistent with its age.
