The Bible has a typical Frisian silver lock. The initials JSN and the year 1843 are engraved on the inside.
Both the mutineer and the attachment depict a female figure resting on a pillar. This stands for: Fortitudo (steadfastness). The pillar / column represents support and strength and self-control in the face of adversity and pain.
The Bible locks were made by TW Camming (TC47) from Sneek. He worked from 1825 to 1838.
The silver clasp is marked with the second grade hallmark, miner's head and year letter D for 1838.
