Two silver birth cups – Wilhelm Binder, Schwäbisch Gmünd (1928)
A special pair of silver birth cups , both engraved with the names Hans and Anne , born on July 19, 1928. Due to the same birth date, they are very likely twins , making this set extra rare and historically interesting. The cups are therefore only sold together .
The cups were made by the Wilhelm Binder Silberwarenfabrik from Schwäbisch Gmünd , a town renowned since the late Middle Ages as a center for high-quality German silver and artisanal work. From the 17th century onward, Schwäbisch Gmünd developed into a major production center for silver ornamental and utilitarian objects.
Wilhelm Binder was one of the most renowned German silversmiths, especially between 1870 and 1920. The firm was founded in 1868 and, from 1872 onward, employed modern techniques such as steam engines, without compromising the quality of craftsmanship. Wilhelm Binder's silverwork remains highly sought after by collectors today.
Both cups are marked with:
- 800/1000 silver
- half moon (German silver hallmark)
- master mark WTB (Wilhelm Binder)
The cups are classic in shape and carefully finished, in keeping with luxury silverware from the early 20th century.
