10 silver butter knives with mother-of-pearl handles made by Pierre Francois Aelewaters from Mechelen. He was born in 1786 and died in 1843. From 1827 to 1843, he was active as a silversmith.

The butter knives, which were used for spreading butter, pâté or jam on bread rolls, have a silver shield on the handle. It is quite unique that the blade is also made of silver. Often, this was made of steel, due to its hardness.

The knives are hallmarked with master's mark A above a plant, Minerva head of Antwerp (letter B) and the Janus head 2 for 2nd grade silver. 833/1000.

The blades are also hallmarked with Arnould from Namur. He was also a specialized knife maker.

The knives are in good condition.

Weight: 292 grams. Length: 19 cm.
